PecanIoT Central Texas (verified owner) –
I have deployed several of these thus far in Central Texas. One is monitoring a 500 gallon tank and has very good granularity. It has been deployed 3 years without touching. I have 3 more each monitoring 25K gallon water storage resevoirs. I deployed them on my own high-visibility em500 mounts on Winegard swedged antenna poles. Customer loves the high visibility mounts. Moving them higher using a pole gave much better SNR. I have a high-visibility sensor cage to get the sensor out of the sludge at the bottom of the tank. These were able to be in contact with the DLOS8N radio at ranges of about 2 miles. I swapped to 8dBi antenna on the gateway. The customer was OVER THE MOON that the bulk of the EM500 is the battery. Another application note: SNR was impacted quite a bit by a vertical mount versus horizontal, which surprised me a little bit as you would think the EM500 was, at best, maybe a 1dBi onboard antenna. The antenna details an RF recommendations are not detailed in the EM500 documents.
