Quectel launches Android 16 modules for 4G and 5G IoT
Quectel Wireless Solutions has introduced two Android 16 smart modules aimed at industrial and commercial IoT devices, expanding its lineup across both 4G and 5G. The new products are the SH602FA, a 4G smart module, and the SE505FE, an entry-level 5G smart module.
The company said the modules combine Android 16, built-in wireless connectivity, and multimedia features in compact form factors intended to simplify development and speed product rollout. According to the announcement, the addition of Android 16 to both 4G and 5G IoT devices is meant to support richer user interfaces, stronger multimedia performance, and integration in smart building, retail, and industrial settings.
Quectel said Android 16 can help connected devices interact more directly with nearby systems while reducing development complexity. In examples outlined in the announcement, a vending machine could exchange data with a smart building’s energy management platform without extensive custom integration, while a retail kiosk could show live operational updates, promotional content, and transaction confirmations using Android’s built-in interface capabilities instead of separate display controllers. The company also said wearables, industrial handhelds, and in-vehicle systems can benefit from more responsive graphics, improved media performance, and enhanced security features through the operating system.
For manufacturers, Quectel said that could translate into more functionality at the platform level, with less software development effort, lower hardware requirements, and shorter product development cycles.
SH602FA targets 4G industrial applications
The SH602FA is positioned as a high-performance 4G module for developers that need computing and multimedia capability in embedded designs. It is powered by the MediaTek MT8786 chipset, using a 2× Cortex-A75 and 6× Cortex-A55 processor architecture with a G52 MC2 GPU.
The module supports cameras up to 64MP and 2K video at 30fps. Quectel said it is suited to handheld terminals, industrial inspection devices, smart intercoms, safety equipment, and multimedia applications. The SH602FA also integrates LTE Cat 4, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.1, and GNSS in an LCC form factor, and supports a range of interfaces for integration.

SE505FE brings Android 16 to entry-level 5G
The SE505FE is aimed at making Android-powered 5G connectivity available to a broader set of IoT uses. It is built on the MediaTek MT8863T chipset with a 2× Cortex-A76 and 6× Cortex-A55 processor architecture and a Mali-G57 GPU.
The module supports 5G Sub-6GHz and LTE Cat 4, along with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and GNSS. Quectel listed AR/VR devices, digital signage, smart gateways, tablets, industrial PDAs, robotics, and intelligent video platforms among its typical applications.
Together, the SH602FA and SE505FE extend Quectel’s Android smart module portfolio with options for both 4G and 5G IoT devices. The company said the modules are designed to help reduce engineering complexity, accelerate product development, and support faster deployment across industrial automation, retail, logistics, smart cities, healthcare, and other connected applications.
